about me 〰️
Sophie Raniere (she/her)
I’m a Registered Psychotherapist in Ontario offering virtual therapy to folks 18+. My therapy is feminist, trans-inclusive, pro-queer, neurodiversity-affirming, and fat-positive.
My lived and living experiences as a fat, queer ADHDer divesting from diet culture are central to the ways in which I show up for clients.
I hold an MA in Counselling Psychology, a BA Honours in Women’s Studies with a minor in Sociology, and a University Certificate in Counselling Women.

Social Location
My social location impacts my work. For potential clients, I feel it’s helpful to provide the following context:
I am a white settler living on unceded Anishnaabeg territory
I am a non-religious, Canadian-born citizen whose first language is English
I have always been housing and food secure with access to healthcare and higher education
I am a cisgender woman, queer/bisexual, and neurodivergent (ADHD)
I live in a midfat, heavily-tattooed body with chronic illnesses that appears nondisabled
I have lived and living experience of disordered eating, depression, and anxiety
Values
I strive to practice while rooted as much as is possible in the following values:
antiracism
disability justice
fat liberation
feminism
harm reduction
prison abolition
social justice

Feminist therapy is a politically informed model that observes human experience within the framework of societal and cultural realities and through the dynamics of power informing those realities.

Feminist Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy provides a confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours in an effort to gain insight, foster self-compassion, and move toward living the life you want. Feminist psychotherapy does this while acknowledging the power dynamics and structures of privilege and oppression that inform your lived experience.
Rising Tide Feminist Counselling offers psychotherapy that is relational, meaning every client-therapist relationship is unique and grounded in the assumption that the client is the expert of their own life. Working relationally means your therapist is not a “blank slate,” and as such, principles of antiracism, feminism, fat liberation, harm reduction, disability justice, and more, are woven into the work. Both client and therapist are encouraged to bring as much of their authentic selves to session as they desire.
Rising Tide Feminist Counselling offers psychotherapy that is person-centred and flexible in its approach, meaning client and therapist work collaboratively to establish goals and define what progress means to them. This can be a space to be heard, sit with difficult emotions, learn about the messiness of being human, brainstorm solutions, try new coping skills, or even laugh and connect. Both client and therapist are encouraged to remain attuned to what feels most useful in each session.
